		<description>I posted about the inability to use many of the cool tools because of the student email issue. I received a thoughtful post from one of my fellow Twitterers, Lisa Thumann, has also wrestled with this topic. She gave me some ideas.

Also, from listening to many leaders in the field, I have sort of figured out ways around this. I have prepared a letter to go home at the very end of 4th grade or the very beginning of 5th grade asking for permission to either (a) use the child&#039;s email address that parents may have set up or (b) create one using gmail. Then we can use jottit or pageflakes and the kids can be more involved.

		<description>I think students who are doing research would greatly benefit from RSS originating from others (scholars, researchers)doing work in the same field.  I think receiving the latest information available via the RSS feeds while following current events in the news (political elections, the Iditarod, the Tour de France, a breaking news story)is another great way to take advantage of this incredible technology.</description>

		<description>I think the use of social networking tools to keep parents updated on activities and events in the classroom could be a valuable public relations tool.  Also, for students (and teachers) who may be traveling abroad on an exchange trip, the possibility of sharing their 
experiences with those at home (family, friends, and the classmates who were unable to go on the trip)would be very valuable.</description>

		<description>I certainly agree with the statement that in using these tools, you have your students&#039; attention.  Whenever something is projected from the computer, students perk up.  If I tell the students that I found something &quot;cool&quot; on Teacher Tube, they are very attentive to it. It also helps to validate what we teach because the students can see that it is an important concept to other people as well.</description>

I love using the tools that I am able to use! My students love them and think they are like magic. I sometimes get stuck when a personal email is needed for use but I am learning how to deal with that, too.
I think some of the most exciting tools are voicethreads and roxer and jotit. 
I read about the teen second life site. That seems to be a decent place for the kids to use for social networking. Most of my kids are not old enough to use those kinds of tools but they sure enjoy simple tools like imaginationcubed.
